PANEL TYPES

Find the panel that sounds right

Microperforated panels

Timber panels drilled with front holes as small as Ø0.5mm, so the face reads as plain veneer or lacquer at normal viewing distance. Larger rear holes and a backing behind the board absorb sound in meeting rooms, boardrooms and auditoria. Perfopan gives NRC 0.35 to 0.80 across the Microustic variants, on 18mm MDF in veneer, HPL, melamine or RAL lacquer.

Of the timber options on this page, micro-perforation keeps its workings out of sight: the holes are too fine to read, where perforated and grooved boards show a visible pattern. Absorption comes from the holes and the cavity behind, set by the perforation density, so it suits meeting rooms and boardrooms where the wall must look like plain timber. Perfopan publishes an NRC for each variant, from 0.35 to 0.80.

3D acoustic panels

Sculpted forms that scatter and absorb sound at once. They give a feature wall the depth a flat panel can't, while cutting echo in receptions, cinemas and retail spaces. Most ranges are recycled PET felt, with up to 60% recycled content, and fire-rated options are available.

Where flat felt and timber boards treat a wall as a surface, 3D panels add depth: the sculpted relief gives more area to absorb sound and breaks up reflections across the wall. They work best as a feature wall in receptions and retail spaces, mixed with flatter panels for full-room coverage. Most ranges are recycled PET felt modules, where the timber groups on this page are 18mm boards.

Perforated wood panels

Timber or fibre-gypsum boards drilled in a regular hole pattern, with an absorber behind the holes. The pattern and open area are chosen for the room, from low to high frequencies, on walls and ceilings that should read as timber. Standard boards are 18mm MDF or fire-retardant FR-MDF in veneer, HPL or melamine, and Perfofire builds use an A2-s1,d0 fibre-gypsum core.

Perforated boards sit between micro-perforated and grooved panels: the hole pattern stays visible, and the open area and backing decide which frequencies are absorbed. Choose them where a timber wall should read as a deliberate pattern, in halls, auditoriums and corridors, or where a Perfofire fibre-gypsum core is needed for A2-s1,d0.

Acoustic felt panels

Recycled PET felt panels that absorb the mid and high frequencies where speech sits. Echo falls and voices clear in offices, classrooms and receptions, in a wide range of colours and shapes. Thicknesses run from 6mm to 40mm, and Feltouch panels come in 53 standard colours.

Felt absorbs through the material itself, with no holes, grooves or cavity to tune, which keeps specification and fitting straightforward. It brings colour rather than timber, in flat shapes from 6mm to 40mm thick, for open-plan offices, classrooms and receptions. For sculpted relief, see 3D; for a timber look, see the wood groups.

Grooved wood panels

Timber boards with milled grooves on the face and perforations behind, so sound passes through the grooves into an absorber at the back. The surface reads as linear joinery, and flexible versions follow curved walls and columns. Standard boards are 18mm MDF or fire-retardant FR-MDF in veneer, HPL or melamine, with an A2-s1,d0 Perfofire option.

Where perforated boards show holes, grooved boards show fine linear lines, with the perforations hidden on the back. That gives a continuous joinery look in halls, auditoriums and receptions, and the Flex versions bend around curved walls and columns, which flat boards cannot.

Fabric acoustic panels

An absorbent core wrapped in fabric and made to size. They shorten echo and sharpen speech in meeting rooms, classrooms, offices and halls, in almost any colour. Standard sizes run up to 1200 × 3000mm, with custom sizes and A2-s1,d0 fire-rated builds available.

Fabric panels are the soft option among the wall types: an absorbent core behind a textile face, with no visible holes, grooves or relief. They suit meeting rooms, classrooms and halls where speech clarity matters, and the Perfopan FR builds reach NRC 0.95 with an A2-s1,d0 core.

Acoustic slat panels

Timber slats over a felt backing: sound passes through the gaps and the felt absorbs it. The wall reads as a joinery finish first, in receptions, boardrooms and homes. Veneer slats sit on recycled PET felt with B-s1,d0 options, and PVC finishes resist moisture in busy, humid rooms.

Slat panels read as joinery first, like grooved boards, but with open gaps over a felt backing instead of a perforated board. They suit receptions, boardrooms and homes, in real wood veneer or moisture-resistant PVC, and the Kuuks veneer ranges carry B-s1,d0 on both slats and felt.
