Perfopan

Microustic® MICRO 4x4x1 PR5%

Microustic® MICRO 4x4x1 PR5% is a Perfopan micro-perforated wood panel with Ø1mm front holes on a 4 × 4mm grid and a 5% open area. Perfopan's data sheet gives NRC 0.70 without mineral wool and NRC 0.75 with it, at a 200mm mounting depth. It suits classrooms, open-plan offices and dining rooms that need steady mid-frequency absorption behind a calm timber face.

The 18mm MDF board is drilled from both faces, backed with Soundtex black glass tissue and fixed on an aluminium profile. Without mineral wool its published absorption reaches 0.86 at 500 Hz; adding 50mm wool lifts the overall NRC to 0.75. Finishes are wood veneer, HPL or lacquer to a RAL colour.

Where it works, fire rating and fitting

Your product questions, answered, for UK schools, offices and venues.

Is the MICRO 4x4x1 PR5% suitable for UK classrooms?

It can be. Perfopan gives NRC 0.70 without mineral wool and 0.75 with it, at a 200mm mounting depth. For a school our acoustician assesses the room against its BB93 target at the survey and sets the coverage from that.

What fire rating does the board have?

Perfopan's data sheet gives D-s2,d0 for the standard 18mm MDF board and B-s2,d0 for the fire-resistant MDF board. We check the chosen board and finish against your building's fire strategy before anything is ordered.

What difference does mineral wool make?

On Perfopan's data sheet, 50mm of 50 kg/m³ mineral wool raises the NRC from 0.70 to 0.75, and lifts absorption below 200 Hz. Our acoustician decides whether the room needs it at the survey.

How is it fixed, and who installs it?

Panels fix on an aluminium profile, and the depth of the cavity behind affects the result; Perfopan tested at 200mm. Our installation team confirms the substructure at the survey and sets out the panels on site.

Can I see a sample, and how many panels will I need?

Samples are available on request; allow a few working days. Quantities come from the room's size, finishes and use at the free site survey, which gives a quotation and an AI-assisted acoustic report. Before-and-after acoustic measurement is available as a paid add-on.
