Perforated Wood Panels
Perforated wood panels are wood-finished boards with holes that let sound pass into an absorbing layer behind. The surface reads as continuous timber while the pattern does the acoustic work, which suits boardrooms, auditoriums and hotel lobbies where fabric or felt would feel too utilitarian.
Hole size, spacing and the backing set which frequencies are absorbed, so panels can be matched to a reverberation target. Grooved wood panels work on the same principle with slots instead of holes. We match pattern, finish and absorption class, then supply and install across the UK.

An acoustician visits the site, or works from your drawings and photos when a visit isn't practical. Either way, the room, its surfaces and how it is used are recorded before any advice is given.

Treatment is modelled against a reverberation target, then drawn up with panel positions, fixings and finishes. Nothing moves forward until you have approved the design.
Every quotation comes with the specification behind it, listing products by type, quantity and finish with costs set out line by line. What is quoted is what the design calls for.
Panels, baffles, ceilings and screens come from the manufacturers we work with and are supplied to the approved specification. What arrives on site matches what was designed.
Our installation team fits to the approved drawings, checking positions and fixings as they go. One team supplies and installs the treatment.
Optional paid add-on: after fit-out the space can be measured again and compared with the original survey, so the improvement is measured rather than assumed. Compliance testing is carried out with our testing partner, EMC Acoustics, and the written record goes into your building file.

The wood face itself would reflect sound. The perforations or grooves are what let sound reach the absorber behind, and open area, hole or groove size and the backing set the absorption. A pattern with very little open area looks solid but absorbs less.
In most cases, yes, using stain, veneer or lacquer options. Exact species and colour matching varies, so samples are available on request (allow a few working days) and we confirm the closest achievable match before ordering. Timber ages differently, so allow for slight variation next to old joinery.
Standard timber panels are not recommended for high-moisture environments such as pools, kitchens or washdown areas. For those we specify a moisture-resistant or industrial range instead, with sealed faces and stable cores.
Perforated boards look calm and uniform, while grooved boards give a linear, rhythmic look. Both come in a range of hole and groove sizes, which changes the look and the frequencies absorbed. We show samples of each and check the tested absorption.
Routine dusting is usually enough. Refinishing depends on the timber treatment, the lacquer and how much light and wear the panels receive. We advise on maintenance for the specific finish at specification stage.
