Perfopan

Flutter Diffuser

The Flutter diffuser, made from solid wood or MDF, breaks up flutter echo between parallel walls and spreads sound more evenly across the room. It restores fullness and even scattering to ambient sound, which helps music rooms, recording spaces, school halls and venues.

It is built as a series of parallel sections with varying column depth. Construction is solid wood or MDF, and a fire-resistant version can be produced on request. Sound striking the surface at 135° is reflected with even intensity across a 30° to -150° range.

Diffusion theory: Flutter diffusers use a series of parallel sections with varying column depth. When an incoming sound wave strikes the horizontal flutter surface at 135°, it reflects the sound with even intensity across a 30° to -150° range.

Where it works, fire rating and fitting

Your product questions, answered, for UK schools, offices and venues.

What is a flutter diffuser and where does it suit UK buildings?

It scatters sound rather than absorbing it, which breaks up flutter echo between parallel walls. That suits music rooms in schools, recording and rehearsal spaces, performance venues and hospitality rooms. We assess against the BB93 target at the survey for schools.

Where should the Flutter diffuser go in a room?

It is placed on a wall facing a parallel surface, so the repeated reflections are scattered. Our acoustician sets positions and quantities from the room's measurements and the use of the space, and the installation team fixes it to your wall build.

Is the Flutter diffuser fire rated?

A fire-resistant version can be produced on request, and the standard product is solid wood or MDF. We confirm the classification from the manufacturer's data sheet against your building's requirements before ordering, and choose the version to suit.

What is the Flutter diffuser made from?

It is made from solid wood or MDF, with a parallel stepped-depth column profile. Varying column depth is what scatters the sound, and a fire-resistant version is available. We confirm the finish and material options for your project at the survey.

Can I see samples, and how many diffusers will a room need?

Samples are available on request; allow a few working days. Quantity depends on wall length, room shape and the echo you want to control, so our free site survey agrees numbers and gives a quotation and an AI-assisted acoustic report.
