A restaurant can have the best kitchen in town and still get a two-star review for the noise. Hard floors and high ceilings are built for easy cleaning, not acoustics, and once the room fills up at peak service, conversation stacks on conversation until guests are shouting across a two-person table, reaching for their phone to complain before the food even arrives.

The measurement that actually matters: full, not empty

The most common mistake in hospitality acoustics is measuring a room when it's quiet and treating that reading as representative. We factor in peak-service conditions specifically, since that's when noise is actually a problem for guests, not the empty mid-afternoon lull. A dining room that sounds perfectly reasonable at 3pm can be genuinely unworkable at 8pm on a Saturday, and a specification based only on the quiet reading will always under-treat the room.

Materials that survive a working kitchen, not just a fabric swatch

Acoustic treatment in hospitality has to handle a working environment, not just look good in a sample book. We specify food-safe, easy-to-clean finishes near service areas, materials chosen for how they perform under daily hospitality use, spills, steam, high turnover, not just how they photograph on installation day.

Treatment as part of the design, not an addition to it

In hospitality, the room is the brand, and acoustic treatment that looks like an afterthought undermines exactly the atmosphere the space is trying to create. Stretched fabric ceiling systems, textured or printed wall panels, these are specified to work as part of the interior design from the outset, sometimes becoming a genuine design feature rather than a necessary compromise.

Working around service, not through it

Installation is scheduled for closed days or overnight so service isn't affected, most single venues are treated in two to five days depending on floor area, with the room ready to open as normal the next service.

Common questions

Will this survive a busy kitchen and dining environment? Yes, we specify finishes suited to hospitality use, including easy-clean options near food service areas specifically.

Do you measure noise when the restaurant is busy or empty? We factor in peak-service conditions, since that's when noise is actually the problem guests experience and complain about.

Can treatment match our interior design? Yes, stretched fabric and printed panel finishes are commonly specified to work with the room's existing design rather than sitting apart from it.

Getting your dining room assessed

See our restaurant and bar acoustics page or book a free survey, ideally timed around a genuinely busy service, to see what your room needs at capacity.

Related product guides: ceiling baffles, stretched fabric walls.

From first survey to final finish

One team handles all seven stages, the same way on every project, so you always know what happens next.

Acoustic Survey

A surveyor visits the site, or works from your drawings and photos when a visit isn't practical. Either way, the room, its surfaces and how it is used are recorded before any advice is given.

Acoustic Assessment

Reverberation, ambient noise and noise transfer are read against what the space is used for. The findings arrive as a written report with recommendations, yours to keep with no obligation to proceed.

Acoustic Design

Treatment is modelled against a reverberation target, then drawn up with panel positions, fixings and finishes. Nothing moves forward until you have approved the design.

Specification & Quotation

Every quotation comes with the specification behind it, listing products by type, quantity and finish with costs set out line by line. What is quoted is what the design calls for.

Acoustic Product Supply

Panels, baffles, ceilings and screens come from our Acoustic Solutions range and are supplied to the approved specification. What arrives on site matches what was designed.

Acoustic Installation

Our own engineers fit to the approved drawings, checking positions and fixings as they go. One team supplies and installs, so nothing is handed between contractors.

Acoustic Testing & Compliance

Optional: after fit-out the space can be measured again and compared with the original survey, so the improvement is measured rather than assumed. Results are reported against the relevant standards and the written record goes into your building file.
