Acoustic Diffusers

Diffusers scatter sound; they do not absorb it
Used with absorbers, not instead of them
Placed on the walls where reflections are strongest, at the listening or performing position
A noisy room needs absorption first
Acoustic Diffusers
Acoustic diffusers scatter sound. Wells, ridges or angled facets spread a reflection in many directions instead of one echo, keeping a room lively and even without flutter echo. They do not absorb sound, so they are used in studios, listening rooms and auditoria, alongside absorbers.
A room that is too loud or echoey needs absorption first, with diffusion after. Reflective panels redirect sound to where it is needed, such as from a stage to an audience. Book a free site survey and we will tell you whether your room needs diffusion, absorption or both.
Sound absorption
Diffusers scatter sound, so they absorb little; absorbers handle the reduction.
Design flexibility
Wood, plaster or moulded forms in wells, ridges or facets, finished to suit the room.

An acoustician visits the site, or works from your drawings and photos when a visit isn't practical. Either way, the room, its surfaces and how it is used are recorded before any advice is given.
Reverberation, ambient noise and noise transfer are read against what the space is used for. The findings arrive as an AI-assisted acoustic report with recommendations, yours to keep with no obligation to proceed.
Treatment is modelled against a reverberation target, then drawn up with panel positions, fixings and finishes. Nothing moves forward until you have approved the design.
Every quotation comes with the specification behind it, listing products by type, quantity and finish with costs set out line by line. What is quoted is what the design calls for.
Panels, baffles, ceilings and screens come from the manufacturers we work with and are supplied to the approved specification. What arrives on site matches what was designed.
Our installation team fits to the approved drawings, checking positions and fixings as they go. One team supplies and installs the treatment.
Optional paid add-on: after fit-out the space can be measured again and compared with the original survey, so the improvement is measured rather than assumed. Compliance testing is carried out with our testing partner, EMC Acoustics, and the written record goes into your building file.
Specification, performance and installation
Your product questions, answered.
An absorber takes sound energy out of the room, which cuts reverberation and echo. A diffuser spreads sound in many directions and keeps the energy in the room. A diffuser makes the sound more even. An absorber makes it quieter. Many rooms need both, in the right proportion.
No. A diffuser spreads sound but does not remove it, so the overall level stays much the same. If the problem is noise or echo, absorbers on the walls and ceiling are the first step. Diffusers help once the room has been treated and still sounds uneven or harsh.
Usually on the wall behind the listener or performer, and on side walls at the reflection points. Placement depends on the room size, the use and where people sit. We set it out at survey, and it often follows absorber positions, not the other way round.
Often, yes, once absorption is in place. Studios, control rooms and listening rooms need a controlled and even sound, and diffusers help keep the room from sounding dead. Small rooms need fewer, and smaller rooms may not suit deep diffusers because of the distance needed to work properly.
Reflective panels send sound toward where it is needed, for example from a stage to an audience, or from a speaker to the back of a room. They are hard surfaces and do not absorb sound. We use them where a room has too little natural reflection to carry speech or music.
