A university lecture hall needed to carry a proven acoustic wall-and-ceiling concept and note-taking seating solution into a new campus.

This Girls' Section Lecture Hall at Al-Rass is part of Qassim University's wider lecture hall programme and follows the coordinated acoustic and architectural design established across the university's halls.

Perforated acoustic timber wall panels are paired with matching perforated acoustic gypsum board ceiling panels, and every seat has an anti-panic folding wood writing tablet.

The 220-seat hall carries the university's design language into the Al-Rass campus.

Challenge

A university lecture hall needed to carry a proven acoustic wall-and-ceiling concept and note-taking seating solution into a new campus.

As with its sister lecture halls, the brief called for a considered relationship between wall and ceiling acoustic treatment and a seating solution suited to daily academic use.

A concept proven elsewhere in the programme needed to carry into a new campus without losing its consistency.

Solution

The same perforated acoustic timber wall panels and matching perforated acoustic gypsum ceiling panels were applied, with anti-panic folding wood writing-tablet seating throughout.

Acoustic timber wall panels were perforated in the same harmonised pattern of points used across the programme, paired with matching perforated acoustic gypsum board ceiling panels.

Seating throughout uses anti-panic folding wood writing tablets, giving students a stable note-taking surface without compromising row circulation.

Acoustic Testing & Compliance

Optional paid add-on: after fit-out the space can be measured again and compared with the original survey, so the improvement is measured rather than assumed. Compliance testing is carried out with our testing partner, EMC Acoustics, and the written record goes into your building file.
