A university lecture hall needed a coordinated acoustic wall-and-ceiling concept alongside seating suited to daily note-taking.

This Men's Section Lecture Hall at Al-Khabra is part of a wider programme of lecture halls delivered for Qassim University, with a coordinated acoustic and architectural design, consultancy and materials scope.

Perforated acoustic timber wall panels and matching perforated acoustic gypsum board ceiling panels follow the university's established concept, with anti-panic folding wood writing tablets at every seat.

For this hall, an olive veneer finish sets the material tone, with green seat fabric and carpet to match.

Challenge

A university lecture hall needed a coordinated acoustic wall-and-ceiling concept alongside seating suited to daily note-taking.

The brief followed a design concept developed across the university's programme, built around a considered relationship between wall and ceiling treatments and a seating solution suited to daily academic use.

The hall needed to sit within that concept while still having a material identity of its own.

Solution

Perforated acoustic timber wall panels were paired with perforated acoustic gypsum ceiling panels in a harmonised pattern, with anti-panic folding wood writing-tablet seating throughout, finished in an olive veneer with coordinating green seat fabric and carpet.

Seating throughout uses anti-panic folding wood writing tablets. An olive veneer finish was chosen for this hall, with seat fabric and carpet selected in coordinating green tones.
